So we’re back online, mostly 24/7 now. And we have a vent server!
Join us at vent1.awdserv.net on port 4315. I’ll be on the most of the time as will other admins and users. So join the fun!

Seriously, I was rebooting the router last night to solve a server connection issue, when I noticed it wasn’t coming back online.

Puzzled, I entered the office and made my way to the bundle of cables and a mess of wiring to see that the router was giving off a smoldering smell. But nevermind, it needed to be replaced and I’ll be buying one this afternoon once TAFE is over.

Also, for anyone who foolishly upgraded to 1.6.* after we warned you not to time and time again, you can get a copy of 1.5 here: http://www.paste.am/uploaded/60226115245/bin.zip

Just replace your current bin folder (Usually in C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft), it could be located somewhere else depending on if you use Windows, Linux or OSX and what version.

Woops! Looks like someone overwrote my hard work, as a punishent Altera is offline for 2 days while I rebuild privately.

I thought that some of you might like to know just how the Premium and donation money is being spent. Currently our server is experiencing lag issues when its user count hits 13 or higher. This is caused because of the huge amount of modifications we’ve added to improve your MC experience which maxes out our RAM immediately. Even with four users online, the Random Access Memory usage hits 78%. That’s because we only have 1 GB of it in the rack, we’ve fixed this. Starting this weekend, Altera will have 15 GB of RAM to help power this great nation.

Additionaly, we’re going to start providing an Live Map for users to view online and see player positions, this will take a few more weeks to complete however.

In the coming months our server will migrate from a rack sitting on my desk (see picture below):

If I may explain, our current server is called a rack server because of its small size, what you saw in the first image was actually two of them sitting on top of eachother. I chose these models specificaly because of their hotswappable hard drives, meaning I can literaly pull one out and replace it with another in about five seconds flat. Thing of those two hard drives you see. Now imagine that on a blade server, those two hard drives are actually two computers and you don’t have two of them, you have 16 of them.

These are mega servers, they’re the best thing there is next to IBM’s Blue Gene and the new unannounced server they just sold to CCP games. As far as I’m aware, there is no minecraft server out there that will have this level of processing power, not even minecraft.net itself has one of these things. Our user count will only be limited by notch’s ability to program.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a downside. They have four power inputs just to function, meaning my power bill of $800 will sky rocket. But that’s ok, because we’re bringing in new things for premiums and non premiums!

A little known fact about premium memberships is the free diamond pickaxes you can get, well we’re expanding that range with free diamond equipment of all sorts, that will be available from the Alteran mall. Don’t want to walk that far? Introducing quick travel! Coming to a suburb near you.

Quick travel will be a sign post that will teleport you to wherever you want to go (CBD, Lumber Mill, Town Mine, Freeside). That and our upcoming subway network will allow reduced travel times for our most loved members (the ones that donate/premium-it-up).

The RAILWAY. The railway was a hot button topic at the last elections, so we’re going to build it. The railway will be like a cluster of train lines, which users will be able to rent for a small fee of Cr to move vast amounts of items around the city. More details on this coming soon!

Once again, if you haven’t purchased premium yet, there’s no better time to do it than now. OR, if you have some spare cash, Altera [b]always[/b] needs more funds.

As a final note, you may have noticed some rather colourful additions to the city, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank one Natalie (under the account “Davison”) for taking the time to make our server look a lot less plain (if a little bit retro).

It’s back up everyone! Sorry for the delay, but it was unavoidable.

Were you too enticed by the flashy lights and weather effects to not stop and think for a minute? Too bad. There will be no uploading of an older version this time, so the lack of users is giving me an excellent chance to bugger around with things. BUT DON’T WORRY! There’s a vanilla server up and running for now, no economy or anything (new map in fact) to keep you going while we all wait for an updated server for me to use.

THE MAP AND ALL YOUR POSESSIONS WILL BE BACK ONCE THE SERVER IS UPDATED. Thanks!
